HSE APPROVED IN PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID
We at Touch Security Ltd are pleased to offer the Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid accredited qualification. The course provides theoretical and practical training in First Aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Candidates will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation including being able to provide first aid for a child and an infant who;
- is unresponsive
- has an airway obstruction
- is suffering from shock
- is wounded and bleeding
- has a fracture or dislocation
- has a head, neck or back injury
- has a condition effecting the eyes, ears or nose
- has a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
- is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and/or cold
- has been poisoned
- has been bitten or stung
- has sustained an electric shock
How long is the course?
The Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid consists of 2 units and is to be provided over a period of 2 days with a minimum contact time of 6 hours per unit. Training Centres can offer a 1 day course covering Unit 1 of the qualification. Candidates successfully completing only the 1 day course will gain a Credit Certificate only, not the full Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid.
Course Overview
This qualification is aimed at those who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in industry. Learners gaining this qualification will know that First Aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Its topics are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel.
Entry Guidelines
- There are no prerequisites for this qualification. It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
- Cohorts are to be no larger than 12 learners per Nominated Tutor.
- This qualification is approved for delivery to the age ranges 16-18 and 19+
How is the qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed through practical and oral questioning through the duration the course by the tutor with a 15-question multiple-choice examination at the end. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15. Learners must practically demonstrate the application of the correct techniques in all the First Aid areas indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit. Following the assessment, a list of results will be provided to the Centre Contacts stating whether learners have passed or failed. Certificates for successful learners will be dispatched for distribution by the Centre Contacts. Successful learners will also receive a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualification. This qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to resit the course.
